Hi from Devonshireland

Greetings one and all,

I'm from Devon and love loud music, Lego(obviously), Gadgets and loud/fast cars.
Found this site trawling a couple of times trawling the web for various Lego related stuff over the past few months, loved Lego in my youth and recently got back into it, back in the day I was into the City(town), Rock Raiders and the castle stuff.
I'm currently in the process of making myself a big Lego city, something I've always wanted to do but never really had the space to do it.

Welcome Winky! More than just chatting around here. Lots of members helping one another to find great deals and sales, detailed history of released sets, forefront of Lego rumors & news, and global camaraderie. Glad you can join us on the Brickset Express.

    Love the Diablo btw!

^ This too! Plenty of enthusiasm goes on here, I've even found another couple of AFOLs in Somerset here which I never thought would happen lol. Now my burning question is, do you listen to loud music while building LEGO?

Excellent, I look forward to getting some nice bargains in the future and it was because of here that I discovered a few new sets I was interested in a little while back so I've been stalking the site for a little while now.
Somerset is certainly very near Devon too, so already someone fairly local here then.
I listen to loud music all the time, it's why I'm near deaf, oh that and my toys are rather noisy too, the Diablo is 133decibels of pain and I love it.

Howdy Winky (I guess we can call you that)

    Welcome aboard.

This community is definitely an interesting one :) people from all walks of life sharing a common interest in little pieces of plastic.

Definitely a great bunch of people and I am sure you will find new ways to waste, I mean invest your money :)

I myself am addicted to all things LEGO and Apple, along with loud music also.

    CJ.

Winky, Turbot or Jon is all good haha.

Many varying people united by a love for plastic bricks, can't beat it for sure.

Well I'm always good at investing... I mean squandering my money so I'm sure it'll be all grand here.

Apple have upset me recently so my love for their products isn't what it once was but nevermind, I'm sure I could build a better iPhone out of LEGO.
Must say I'm loving the new 13 Album by Black Sabbath at the moment and always love Rammstein, that's my driving music.
  • LegobutterflyLegobutterfly Member Posts: 488
Ahhhh ramstein! Yes, that would be my husbands music of choice for Sunday morning chilling. Other times we have metallica, sabbath, AC/DC to name but a few, both our boys were born to Ozzy Osbourne. Can't beat a bit of loud music or a loud car! Loud music and LEGO building is tops, yes @indigobox and I kind of encourage each others addictions, both very bad influences indeed!

Somerset & Devon are indeed close, we often take the kids to Paignton or Brixham for a day at a different seaside, lol

Okey dokey, Winky it is then :)

Yeah the love of the plastic brick (LEGO only not MB) generates interesting reads through out this forum.

Apple upset me continually, but I still have this love for them deep rooted within, with releasing new hardware before I even fully embrace the hardware I have just purchased. Just look at Keynote, yet another new Macbook. I just installed iOS 7 developer preview last night so lets see if they can pull back the market share from the competitors.

@bishop_beth is a bad influence, don't get fooled by her niceness :) on a serious note, she is a top lady with a passion for bricks and all things CMFs, even if she can't control one of her little boys (the destructor) to stop pulling and ripping them apart and mish mashing them together. :)

    Hi Winky,

Have you heard Teamrock (DAB) they're playing Rammstein, Slayer, Metallica, Black Sabbath etc.......
Just test transmission at the moment but going live at 23:58 Sunday night,
It's a breath of fresh (metal) air!

Welcome to Brickset by the way.
Hope you enjoy your time here.

Rammstein is one of my favourite bands, many interesting memories from listening to that, including binning a TVR Tuscan, that was a bad day.
Sounds like your boys are musically well educated then.
The car spends some time in Paignton, there's an Italian car specialist there where it mills about.

Yes I'm sure there are a number of interesting reads on here, come across one or two already.
Apple have recently decided to try charging me for a new battery on my 6 month old iPhone 5, not a chance I'm paying £44 for a warranty item, because of their appalling customer service I'm off looking at others I'm sure I'll still end up getting the 5S though...

I have heard it and it's fantastic, I've notice Planet Rock has started going a little soft on us these days so it's nice to have two metal stations to skip between now, means there's much more choice.

    Thanks for the welcome too.

Seems a bit of a strange one with the Warranty with it being 6 months. Have you taken it into an Apple Store and spoken to one of their Genius Bar staff? I have had issues in the past where they bring out a replacement phone for you. I haven't ever had to pay due to the fault.
  • Big_Blue_WinkyBig_Blue_Winky Member Posts: 181
That's the people who told me I had to pay, hence being miffed, their own geniuses.
I've had issues in the past too and they were always good and very quick to offer replacements which is what confuses me a little.
  • indigoboxindigobox Member Posts: 470
I think you have spoken to the wrong 'Genius' :)
I'd raise a complaint through the complaints system they have. 6 months isn't good enough with it having a faulty battery.
  • Big_Blue_WinkyBig_Blue_Winky Member Posts: 181
Well it's against the law for starters but I'm sure it'll be resolved soon enough.
  • indigoboxindigobox Member Posts: 470
It's all good. You still love Apple deep down :) Go on admit it. Haha
  • Big_Blue_WinkyBig_Blue_Winky Member Posts: 181
I do, it's one of those inescapable forces, always draws you in, it says a lot that I'm typing this on an iPad so clearly there's a long way for me to go down the long and windy road to recovery.
This could be a new AA meeting, Appleholics Annonymous.
  • indigoboxindigobox Member Posts: 470
    Don't worry about that.

I am addicted to LEGO and all things Apple.
Maybe they have help groups for both. :)
  • Big_Blue_WinkyBig_Blue_Winky Member Posts: 181
I think we're beyond help with both, certainly the Lego thing.
I just had my future business partner come down to mine from London to collect my Daimler and he was getting all excited about my mini Lego City and has decided to set one up in his office, brilliant.

Oi! I'm no bad influence, you're the one who gets me all riled up to spend money! Ok I got nothin, we're as bad as each other for being bad influences, it's for the love of the brick and figure though!
Now, yes my little 'star destroyer' mish mashes figures but at least he doesn't chew them and he only does it to his own unless we're stupid enough to leave something where he can reach it. I look forward to guiding him in the ways of collecting as he gets older. Well you're not so bad yourself, and your passion for CMFs and Chima is infectious and is why we will probably both end up broke hehe. I am unsure though if our LEGO addicts anonymous pm's are working, since we usually end up encouraging each other to spend more money?!

Hi, as you are a fellow Devon dweller you may be pleased to see that according to the local paper, Plymouth will be getting a Smyths toy store in the early autumn. More chances to pick up a bargain hopefully. Now all we need is an official Lego store somewhere down this way.
  • Big_Blue_WinkyBig_Blue_Winky Member Posts: 181
Being a bad influence is a good thing, I appear to be much the same with cars, I'm always convincing my friends they want something completely daft haha.
Surely that's what Lego is for though creating wonderful mismatches of anything and everything, I'm currently trying to create the Big Blue one out of Lego too.
Lego does seem to be a never ending wallet emptying exercise but it's better than a having the money anyways, certainly makes me happier.

Excellent, be good to have another Lego source around these parts, I go Northern Ireland every other weekend and there's two Smyths stores in Belfast so I can get stuff from there quite often.
