LEGO Mini figures, smell factor?

CoolsplashCoolsplash Member Posts: 935
This might have been discussed in past but I recently stumbled onto something quite weird. As my son collects CMF's so we got 2 of collectible mini figure carry cases (red and green in color) and these are excellent to carry around the mini figures. But, what I have noted a few days back, upon opening the case there is a faint weird kind of smell in the case and the mini figures...

What should be done to remedy this? To air the case and the mini figures as I know keeping these in the sun is not a good idea....any tips you guys?

I'm guessing it's the case, they do smell. Not sure you can do anything about it.

What sort of smell? Chemical? As new plastic often has this type of smell.

You can keep some backing-soda in the storage countainer for a few days. It should absorb the smell.

I do its the due to the case as @margot said and also agree with @Lego_Lord_Mayorca :P but I will try your tip @akunthita as before we kept the mini figures in other plastic storage containers but never had this problem...

I'm sorry, but I like that new plastic smell. When I open up a new Star Wars figure I take all of that smell in. I like the new car smell as well.

Yeah, to clarify my earlier comment, I kind of like the smell as well. Granted, my only exposure to it was when I started dabbling in Collectible Minifigures back in 2010 and 2011. Opening those little bags for the first time, the smell caught me way off guard, but I got used to it. I kept the bags, and last I checked, even after being open for three years, the smell still lingers faintly.

It's like watching that dutch couple on Youtube build their sets. They always take a hit off the freshly opened bags.

Judging by the way TLG love to add ridiculous minor descriptions as selling points, can we start looking forward to the following:

    *Complete with its own aroma!
*Adds a distinctive LEGO brand case-smell to all your minifigures!

But careful now, or they'll charge extra for it!

Every time I open a bag whether it be of bricks of a CMF I'm brought right back to the lovely days of my childhood...must be the fumes.

It was very pronounced on some of the Simpsons figs. Seemed like the soft heads (Mr Burns, Itchy, Scratchy) were worst but a couple of the others were pretty bad too.

If they are too smelly, just leave them in fresh air for a while before playing with them. Don't spray more chemicals on them. That just masks the smell anyway.

I said just incase like if it gets out of control and I'm about to kill my self etc. it gets emotional when I open CMFs XD

^This reminds me of a kenner star wars action figure i had as a kid. My Tie-Fighter Pilot had an aroma completely distinct from all the other figures i had... a kinda sweet smell... and it never left him. I still have it somewhere (i found and boxed a load of stuff up a while ago, and yes, after thirty years he still had his (what became to me) 'like new' smell).
