Super Heroes MOCs and Discussion

CapnRex101CapnRex101 Administrator Posts: 2,364
Hello everyone,

I have noticed over the last week or so that quite a few members here on the forum are either in the process of constructing, or have completed, MOCs along the Super Heroes theme. As they gradually appeared in various threads and discussions I decided it would probably be for the best to have a single thread devoted to them all. Thus, after enquiring of @Huw whether this kind of thread was permitted or not, as Brickset is of course predominantly a website devoted to the collecting aspect of Lego, I have kindly been given the green light.

As well as MOCs, general discussion and speculation concerning Super Heroes sets is also encouraged. The best of luck to anybody else with an ongoing Super Heroes project and I look forward to seeing everybody's work!

@capnrex 101 great idea! I have been researching images of the fortress of solitude. For the purpose of a moc (my first) would appear i need lots of clear and white pieces lol.
  • jasorjasor Member Posts: 839
@CapnRex101 i was wondering if this was coming or not...haha. The Iron Man Secret lab thread has quite a few goodies. It was an oddity that TLG released instructions/parts for, but no real item number etc.

I still havent put together my own...but the MOCs in that thread by a new user are indeed inspiring.

Would that set be considered a MOC unaltered, or just a stepchild set?

@jasor - Indeed, I suppose I would consider that MOC a mixture of the two, perhaps a little too close to the original set to be a standalone MOC, although the actual set has pretty much been gutted and pretty much entirely redone.

As I have been working on my Arkham Asylum MOC, which will be an ongoing project, I have decided to construct some other famous landmarks of Gotham City, the first of which is The Iceberg Lounge, the Penguin's shady nightclub. I am hoping to achieve a scale similar to that of the Modular Buildings, and in order to get some idea of the scale I have constructed this to go above the door...

    image
The blue glowing effect is done with a torch shining onto trans-clear plates, but I hope to place some floodlights or something of that sort to achieve a similar appearance in the final model.

@CapnRex101 I know I kept pushing the PF angle on you a while ago but the led light pack will give the backlight you need and takes up very little room.

@jasor I consider the set official as instructions were designed by TLG, the parts just don't come in the same box.

^all about the LED light pack.

I'm a purist at first, in that I'll want to build the Lab and Malibu Mansion as intended, then I get to go crazy after that.

I'm ALSO working on a frankenbatcave, but it won't be near as detailed as the pics in the other thread.
  • jasorjasor Member Posts: 839
@geddes -- Really? wow. Well, then that doesnt make me feel so bad about modifying it from design right after I build it. Muwaahahaahaa.

Also, @kissyfur_ok fyi on the above... you "may" be interested.....

@GothamConstructionCo - I will look into it. I have actually picked up a couple of power functions packs already.

If I get a set, just as @jasor says above, I will always build the set as per the instructions as a purist, then perhaps buy another set to improve as I wish later on whenever it comes on special offer.

Ah whoops i must of misread the original post :(

Having said that if TLG released the instructions that makes it kind of official I guess.

Fingers crossed @kissyfur_ok sends his Batcave instructions to TLG :)

Loving the new thread @capnrex101 - great idea, and stops me worrying about posting in the wrong thread now!

I've spent most of my day off today rearranging my display shelves to purely accommodate superhero builds; mainly Batman and MCU with a small amount of Superman, Spiderman and X-Men.

I'm hoping to do a section of the Helicarrier to incorporate the Hulk set and fill that part of the shelf, just not sure if I can get away with using a studded surface due to a lack of smooth pieces thanks to Mr Stark!

    What are your thoughts/suggestions?

I remember seeing a cool use of bricks on their side for a Batcave somewhere, guess it would just take some thought...

Thanks a lot, though I still have a fair bit of work before I get to that stage i think.

I still don't get why the "ALERT" sticker is on the outside of the window.

Just a guess but it could be:
Tony Stark's home windows are all hooked up to J.A.R.V.I.S, meaning he can access his computers on every window/screen in his home.
  • scarecrow2400scarecrow2400 Member Posts: 99
^What rolvtd said, but in the official set the instructions show to place the sticker on the outside of the windows instead of the inside. Easy enough to fix; I suppose it's just a matter of preference.

You guys are doing a terrific job with the Super Heroes MOC's. Any plans to help other fellow Bricksetters with possible instructions :P I am planning to make the Malibu mansion as my first ever MOC along with a lot of smaller MOC's for the Lego town....

Speaking of speculation on some of the next Superheroes sets, what do you think the next Ultimate Spiderman set is going to be, and what villains/heroes would you like to see? I haven't seen the cartoons, but I'm sure there are several cameos/teamups/etc.

And also, now that we have Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman, what is the next Justice Leaguer?
  • GoldchainsGoldchains Member Posts: 795
And why can't we get a Superhero CMF line? Please?

In my opinion, in order of likelihood.
Choices for minifigs are power man, white tiger, rhino, lizard, iron spider armour, carnage, jjj jnr, agent/principal coulson, aunt may, sabretooth.

    Possible builds

    Luke cages bike
    Midtown high
    Heli/tri carrier
    Order of likelihood imo

    Nightwing
    Supergirl/superwoman
    Flash
    Green arrow (the hood)

And why can't we get a Superhero CMF line? Please?

Licences are for sets to include minifigs and builds

I want a Flash minifig so bad, I can taste it. They need to make another iteration of GL, as well. I mean....COME ON.

Surely, they can have a Superman and Flash race set ;)
  • CapnRex101CapnRex101 Administrator Posts: 2,364
I would be amazed if we do not get Minifigures of Flash, Green Lantern, and perhaps Martian Manhunter. I would love to see them in a Justice League Watchtower set of some kind.

As for Marvel, I would presume we will end up getting Green Goblin, Rhino and Lizard Minifigures.

^Rhino as a maxifig, lik Hulk? Only way to do that one right....
  • kissyfur_okkissyfur_ok Member Posts: 46
^Agreed on Rhino. This is a likely prediction for 2014 with the next Spiderman movie being released and featuring a version of the character (on top of the cartoon popularity).

I expect a lot of the next Marvel wave will be related to the game and its success. Hopefully this might give us some missed opportunities from the past movies (Iron Man armours, Thor characters like Odin and a Bruce Banner).

Would love an X-Mansion or Stark Tower exclusive too!

What I would really love, even though I deem it highly unlikely to happen, is a bunch of Watchmen sets, with Rorschach with detective hat and trenchcoat with an actual upturned fabric collor etcetera.

  • kissyfur_okkissyfur_ok Member Posts: 46
@thebiglebowski Now you're talking! That would be SO cool.

What are the odds that for the Avengers 2 movie that I.....I mean ...we get a Thanos minifig?
  • TheBigLegoskiTheBigLegoski Member Posts: 1,437
Watchmen Lego could be next to / after LotR the biggest thing happening for AFOLs.
Imagine... all the dark sinister sets and interesting characters this graphic novel / movie lends itself to.
  • jasorjasor Member Posts: 839
@thanos75 almost POSITIVE we get one or 5, like the Loki effect :P

The past couple of years since Lego announced Super Heroes at Comic Con has been a dream realized. Although I would love more sets to be released for years to come I am also pleased with what we have already. This with Star Wars, LoR, TMNT and Collectible minifig has kept my spending at a constant throughout the year.
  • kissyfur_okkissyfur_ok Member Posts: 46
@vwong19 You're certainly right about the spending - I just spent 20 minutes trying to rack up £50 for Jor-Bloody-El, only to end up admitting defeat, emptying the basket at £32 and just getting Palpatine's Arrest for£60 as I couldn't find anything else i fancied that i can't get much cheaper elsewhere!

However, didn't realise I get the Splinter keyring aswell which will go nicely with Raphael so 'silver linings' and all that!
  • DeadareusDeadareus Member Posts: 264
I'd love to see some more X-Men sets. Im surprised there hasnt been anything released in conjunction with the new Wolverine movie. I assume the X-Men license only for the books or cartoons or something like that. However the wolverine set released now depicts a scene from Wolverine the movie. I'm confused.

Wishlist: 10### Xavier's School for the gifted and a large Blackbird sold separately that would fit beneath the school in some fashion.

Hard to say on the Watchmen. While I would love it, the themes from the movie are a little too 'adult' for Lego to promote the sets to children.

I really hope the Marvel/DC licenses are on board for a good amount of time. They seem fairly open ended and with the amount of Marvel and DC movies coming down the pipe TLG should have lots of material to draw from not to mention the tv shows and comic books themselves.

Watchmen would never happen. There is not a single thing about that title that's kid friendly. I would love to have the figures, but I'm pretty sure a customizer is your best bet for those.

I hope that this somewhat qualifies as a MOC (picture MOC?).

I received a few ironman figures in the mail today, and couldn't help but take a quick snapshot of Tony Stark in all his glory.

Just saw advance screening of Man of Steel... MOC ideas aplenty!!
  • kissyfur_okkissyfur_ok Member Posts: 46
Is it as good as it looks @jasor ? I'm booked up for Sunday - can't wait! Have my Clark Kent minifigure on the way and looking forward to some MOC ideas too.

Re: Thor - I'm desperate for some sets! I think with how good Asgard looks in the game and the sequel on the horizon, we have to be in for a full range when they're announced at SDCC as @geddes said.

I'm hoping for something big based in Asgard with Odin etc... And if there's a Destroyer it would save me a hell of a lot of time building from the poor quality screen grabs of the game trailer I've taken haha!

@jasor @kissyfur_ok Thor sets would be great! Minifigs of The Warriors Three and the Lady Sif would be fantastic! How about a Battle at the Bifrost set with a frozen Himdeal, some Ice Giants, Thor, Loki & Odin?

    I'm salivating at the thought!
