I just went to a local Target and they had London Escape for 50% off. Last week it was full price. I don't get it (but I got three).
Also, there was a manager talking to two girls about some German model horse toys (started with an 'S') and said that they would be getting their first main shipment of toys aimed at CHRISTMAS in TWO WEEKS. So the June/July sale makes room for Christmas merchandise beginning in August. When I worked at Target in toys (a looong time ago), the shift happened in mid-October, and you just packed everything tighter - no clearance like thre is now.

^^i know that target bases their clearance sales on what each store has in stock and how well those items have sold. That's why each store is different .

I got 4 Prison Carriage Rescues and a Camper for 30-50% off.

I picked up a Lightning McQueen (8484) for 75% off at my local Target today. It was marked down from $29.99 to $7.48. Usually Lego doesn't last long enough at our Target to make 75% off, but I think that since the Cars Lego sets are on a different aisle from the rest of the LEGO people don't notice it.
The few remaining Toy Story sets are down to 50% off here as are several Atlantis sets.

If you haven't already, run, don't walk, to your nearest Target. I hit up 5 targets in my area and all went to the next discount level on clearance toys: from the 30-50% off to 50-75% off. Unfortunately most LEGO was 50% and not 75%, but half off is pretty much the point where any set becomes worth a buy for me.

I'm about to head out to two more remote Targets right now, but I'll tally the damage when I get back.

Rocao-you my friend are doing what I refer to as "Target Hopping" which is an amazing way to add to your LEGO collection without breaking the bank. I even drive a hybrid so I'm not spending much on gas either driving all around town looking for clearance LEGO at Target. Good luck and let us know how you do.
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
^ Yeah, diligence and vigilance are virtues. This clearance has been interesting. During previous ones, while the discount levels vary by store, the actual clearance items were the same. This time, the sets have varied, too. There have been some constants like 3180 Tanker, 3181 Passenger Plane, Deep Sea Striker, HF Furno Bike, and most Toy Story sets. But there have been some much less common ones like Clone Turbo Tank, Whitecap Bay, City Corner that remain full price at most locations.

I've seen nary a single set on sale at our Targets. I am declaring shenanigans. Shenanigans!
  • malachirobertsonmalachirobertson Member Posts: 268
At one of my Targets in Northern Indiana, they only had the Atlantis Headquarters 50% off (so about $25). I think the rest may have been cleared out. I saw a woman with a Creator Rescue Robot in her hands when I arrived. Don't know if I will have time to make it to the other Target. When I was there earlier in the week, there was no big clearance, but may that has changed now.

Dude! I just got back from Target, I got pharaoh's quest: scarab attack for $1.25 / kingdoms: prison carriage rescue for $2.50 / pharaoh's: cursed cobra for $7.50 / and kingdoms: prison tower rescue for $13.00!!! All 75% off!

Plus last week I had purchased the prison carriage, scarab, and cursed cobra last week at 50% and I still had the receipt in my wallet... I bought an extra of each and returned them right a way and got half my money back!

    Great night!
  • slovakiastephslovakiasteph Member Posts: 62
My Target (middle Indianaish) did not have Lego on clearance. :( The one half an hour from me had some at 20% off...not much, a few small sets.
  • DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 375
I hopped around 5 Targets in Central VA, and was able to find the following: 2x Hogwart's Express ($20 each); 2x Quidditch Practice ($5 each); 1x Freeing Dobby ($2.75); 2x Zane Spinners ($2.75); 2x Small Car ($2.50 each); 1x TIE Defender ($15); 1x Gateway of the Squid ($10); and 1x Undersea Explorer ($10).

After this and the run I posted in the K-Mart Clearance thread, hopefully the empty shelves means I and my wallet can take a break for a while.
  • bmwlegobmwlego Member Posts: 820
^Rocao-I have found that the sets on clearance have varied by store as well. Picked up Quidditch Practice for $5 and Atlantis Undersea Explorer for $10.84, both at 75% off! I will continue my search tomorrow at a couple more Targets! Wuld love to find the Lightning McQueen at 75% off like Sarah mentioned above and if I have half the luck that David Brickley had then I'll be pumped!

Also, Rocao-you're post above reminds me of Mad Eye Moody..."Constant vigilance Harry!"...maybe he was talking about running all over town looking for clearance LEGO at Targets!
  • LegogeekLegogeek Member Posts: 714
Only checked the nearest Target to me.... they didn't have much LEGO on clearance, but I did pick up a 3181 Passenger Plane. It had a clearance sticker for $27.95 but scanned and rang up at $19.95.... good deal! Plus I didn't use a bag so they took off another 5 cents! ;-P

Ok, Non-Americans, cover your eyes if you are easily made sick :)

The past week's scouring of Target clearances has yielded:

    50% off:
    3180 Tank Truck x 21
    3181 Passenger Plane x 16
    3182 Airport x 2
    4737 Quidditch Practice x 4
    7573 Battle of Alamut
    7641 City Corner
    7949 Prison Carriage Rescue x 8
    7950 Knight's Showdown x 5
    8058 Technic Motorbike
    8061 Technic Rescue Helicopter
    8077 Atlantis HQ
    8088 ARC-170 Starfighter
    8484 Ultimate Build McQueen
    8896 Snake Canyon
    8897 Jagged Jaws Reef
    8898 Wreckage Road

    75% off:
    5865 Mini Dumper x 8
    7325 Cursed Cobra
    8080 Undersea Explorer x 2
    8206 Duplo Tokyo Pit Stop
    8639 Big Bentley Bustout
    8678 Ultimate Build Francesco x 4

    90% off:
    7569 Desert Attack x 10

The mark of a truly great clearance event is when one physically can not transport anything more in one's car. Such was the case today.

One of the annoying things about Target is that they don't always give you that five cents off when you don't use a bag. Hardly ever.
  • DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 375
That's an impressive list, rocao. My problem has been I know what I got on the latest haul, but not total. I'm new to buying extra sets for resale or parts, and haven't got an inventory system yet. I do know that I'll be returning one of my Hogwart's Express, with receipt, cause I paid $55.98 for it when it first went on clearance. Great for someone else, who'll get it for $40 or $20.

Mackerel-thanks for the chuckle! That is annoying, even if it is only a nickel. Multiply that by the multiple bags you use for each shopping trip and the countless times you shop at Target because you're driving to 5 in one day looking for clearance LEGO and you might have 20 bags in one day!

Man do I hope that I score some LEGO at 75% off. My 2 closest Targets only have their LEGO clearance marked down to 50% off. I lucked out last night at a distant Target.
  • DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 375
i just checked the last two Targets within reasonable driving distance in central VA, and was very surpised to see a set-up different from the other stores. Both of them had no clearance items except for one had an Exploration HQ at 50% (which was the last hing I was hoping to find in all this craziness). Both stores also had all of the mass market high-end sets well stocked and at full price: Queen Anne's Revenge, Pharaoh Pyramid, Kingdom Castle, Hogwart's Castle, Police Station, and Airport. They looked like they had been set for the holidays already. They even had almost all of the ones mentioned in other posts at back at full price. Weird thing, to search for some of these sets at Target.com, it says none of the stores I went to have these sets in stock.

Just as well, financially, they were not on sale, but definitely not consistent with the rest of this region.
  • datkiddedatkidde Member Posts: 108
Dropped by a couple Targets today. Shelves were cleared out. Maybe it was the store the dude above went to. Anyway, at least I got both cargo trains at TRU.
  • malachirobertsonmalachirobertson Member Posts: 268
I went to the other Target near me (Northern Indiana). The few Legos that they had had on clearance were gone. Items, like UB Lightning McQueen, were still at full price at this store. I talked to a person in the Toys Dept. who suggested that the mark downs were over (at least in that store)
  • gtg905sgtg905s Member Posts: 29
Yesterday, Thursday, they just marked all the toys down. All of the Atlantis and some harry potter was 75% off
    I bought a few sets :-)

I'm going to just have to move to a better Target area. :o) Let me know if anyone has any luck in/around NoVA.
  • 12651265 Member Posts: 1,165
You did well...rocao. The Target stores around me have very little or no sales on LEGO sets. Maybe it's the economy that are hitting the other States and/or areas causing better sales. Here in North Texas, we've not experienced much here. Cheers for Texas!!

How many of you Target clearance hunters are using the Target Debit or Credit card? The Debit card will yield an extra 5% off :)
  • slovakiastephslovakiasteph Member Posts: 62
@malachirobertson. Must be an Indiana thing... I haven't found any clearance Lego either. :(
  • sonsofscevasonsofsceva Member Posts: 542
This weekend should be about it at most Target stores. They are receiving their Christmas lineups now. At one Target by me in St. Louis, a month ago they clearanced the HP Express and today they have more at full price and have readjusted the LEGO aisle with all of the new SW, City and AC sets (and the QAR is replenished).
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
^ Correct, a manager of a local store told me that the goal was to have the LEGO aisle cleared out of old sets in time for the 2H2011 sets for display on August 1st. 2 of the 9 targets I've went to the past two days already have their aisles reset, and I think the other ones have made enough room, so any clearance LEGO that's left will probably sit at the 50% level for quite a while since the pressure for display space is gone.

I am officially unsubscribing from this thread, I cannot stand to read about these amazing deals any longer. In the UK we're lucky to get deals that take us below the RRP price in the US!

That's ok, Andy. NoVA has obviously been reannexed by the Queen so we're in the same boat. :o)

After Target Hopping to the 2 closest Targets late last night in the rain I came across the following finds:
Scored 4 UB Lightning McQueen sets for $7.50 ea
5865 Creator 3 in 1 Dump Truck for $1.26 ea
    7976 Atlantis Ocean Speeder x 2 for $1.24 ea
5 different watches non SW for $4.24 ea
    Robochamp for $2.48 ea
    Small Car x 3 at $2.48 ea

Left tons more on the shelves that were 50% off like Passenger Plane, some Atlantis sets and PoP Alamut that was only 30% off and has been since May!

Hope to hit at least 2 more Targets today and will report back later.

    Atkinsar---
I feel the same way about the UK news posts. I want to unsubscribe to them as well but I find it interesting what goes on by you.
I guess the Americans might be jealous of the British newspaper promos and the Brits might be jealous of the clearance prices Americans can find if they choose to go out and hunt them down.

^ If only those differences were equitable in value...

I'm happy to swap my entire collection of newspaper polys and all future ones for these prices! I can't seem to keep away from these two threads.... At least some kind souls have been picking up some sets for me.

    (I'm still after HP + Kingdoms :o)

I had been waiting, waiting, waiting for my local Target to move a bit more downward on the clearance items...seeing as how I was at the airshow yesterday, sent my wife over to Target to check on the status of the passenger planes they had...only 4 left, but she picked them up at a beautiful $19.99 each. I know some of you guys don't like the new planes, but I happen to like them a lot! :-p Went back today and there was absolutely NO clearance stock left, so it all got cleaned out yesterday. Of note though was that they are now mixing other clone brands in with the Lego shelves...eek.
  • GIR3691GIR3691 Member Posts: 674
Found a few more at the other Target near me. Most of it had been cleared out and all that remained were the stickers. I did, however find:

Freeing Dobby x1 (partially crushed box)-- $2.75 each
Prison Carriage Raid x8-- $2.75 each
Gateway of the Squid x2-- $20 each
  • coolpixcoolpix Member Posts: 357
I am in South Florida, in north Broward county, and yesterday went to 4 Targets here, and one in Boca Raton, and could only find these:

3 x Prison Carriage Rescue: $2.74 (got them all)
2 x Scarab Attack: $1.34 (got them all)
1 x 8304 Racer Orange Car: $1.74 (got that too)
1 x Gateway of the Squid: $19.98 (got it, even though this set is not that great)
A few Bionicle watches for $4.24, but had no interest on those.
    1 x Freeing Dobby: $7.98 (left that)

Some stores had HP sets at regular price, others had NO HP sets, I suppose those were on sale. Same with POTC sets. Some stores had all of them at regular price, while others were sold out. Weird.

And that was it... I think the clearance sale is pretty much done here. I will have another go tomorrow, maybe I can get that City Plane for at least $19, and looking for a couple extras Hogwarts Express's for $30 or less. I've got one already that I picked at regular price when it came out. Not a big HP fan, but could use a few sets like that to build a nice passenger train for City, and give the minifigs for the kids to play.

    TalasAntares-
Yup, I noticed "Attack of the Clones" in my local Target LEGO aisles. Kreo Transformers, K'nex Mario Kart and Mega Blocks are taking up TONS of space at 1 Target in particular.

After driving to Hicksville, Levittown, Farmingdale, Bayshore and Commack Long Island I came away with 1 Scarab Attack for $1.24! My Target hopping these last 2 weeks has proven highly beneficial but I think I'm done for this current clearance season as the deals seem to have been taken advantage of and nothing is left :-(
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,482
Hey Matthew. I picked up a copy of Kingdoms set 7947 for $21 at Kmart yesterday if you are interested.

Yeah, here in my area in IL same thing.. not much on clearance and when on clearance not much taken off.... Or people are sniping the stores when they open and grab every set on the shelf, leaving nothing for anyone else....

I was in Vegas last weekend. They were selling Bulk for about $5, but the biggest deal was XPlode for $3.84. My least favorite villain of season 1, but I got it for the parts. Not sure if this is every Target aside from the Maryland Pkwy/Flamingo branch though

    target.com has 4 toy story 3 sets @ 60% off

pizza planet delivery truck @ 15.91 (beats lego.com by 9.00)
    lotso truck @ 7.98
duplo pizza planet truck @ 7.98
alien trash compactor set @ 19.98

  • bmwlegobmwlego Member Posts: 820
^Target has the Pizza Planet truck listed at $39.79 on their site when I visit.
  • AlczervikAlczervik Member Posts: 93
    hmm...

it is not showing for me as well today, but i did order the items last night i listed and i got email receipt, so i know it went through. Wish someone else got it
  • malachirobertsonmalachirobertson Member Posts: 268
A few weeks back Target.com listed several Lego sets on clearance, including the Pizza Truck. The Pizza Truck got down to about $20 and then disappeared. I am surprised to see it back and at nearly the list price!
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
The prices that Alczervik posted were live for about 4-5 hours. Since then, the sets have returned to original price or have been removed completely.

Also, I was hoping that today would see another reduction round at Target to send the few remaining LEGO sets that were 50% off to the 75% off level. I visited four Targets today and while there was definitely activity in the Toy sections, it was more just to tidy up and condense the clearance section and put up the new "push" stock.

At one store in particular , I had been tracking about 20 Gateway of the Squid sets that were not moving at $19.98. I went in late last night just before close since they sometimes mark them down the night before and they were still at the 50% level. I returned this morning, and all the sets were gone. I found two that were mixed in with the current LEGO stock and the promising "Item not found" came up on the scanner. In the past (and at different stores), I've had managers approve 75-90% off on the items. No luck on this one as the manager said it was $19.98.

What I really want to know is what determines whether sets will go to the deep discount level (75%->90%) or will only reach a certain level (50%) before being pulled? I'm also unsure where these pulled sets went. I've heard the following different explanations and am not sure if it's any or all of them: 1) they're sent back to the warehouse 2) they're sent to a different Target store 3) they're donated to stores like Goodwill.
  • bmwlegobmwlego Member Posts: 820
^Wish I could answer your question because then I'd know for myself! Not sure why this has happened at Target but one day tons of a marked down set will be on the shelves and the next day they will all be gone. At 50% no less. I could understand if they were 75 or 90% off but I usually wait when it is "only" 50% off.
  • datkiddedatkidde Member Posts: 108
People buy them. We've witnessed ladies filling their carts with anything that says clearance.
  • malachirobertsonmalachirobertson Member Posts: 268
The reappearance of sets like the Pizza Planet set suggests some sets go back to a warehouse to then be placed on-line.

On a somewhat different, but related matter ... What I thought was curious was that when people were talking about discounted Cars 2 sets, I went to look on-line to see what area stores might still have stock of them. To my surprise they only had regular McQueen and Mater on the site.
