EXPIRED: [USA] Target: New Clearance Items 30-75% off

DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 375
edited August 2011 in Shopping USA/Canada
Stopping by one Target on the way home from work ended up a tour around town to 3 more. Clearance prices always seem to vary by store, but across the 4 stores, I found:

30% Off: Hogwart's Express, The Burrows, Hagrid's Hut, Quiditch Practice, Freeing Dobby, and Series 4 minifigures

50% Off: Undersea Explorer, Gateway of the Squid, PoP Desert Attack, Toy Story Trash thing and Pizza Planet Truck

75% Off: PoP Ostrich Race

I think a couple of the small Kingdom packs were also on clearance, I "think" 30% off.

I'm guessing they're trying to make room to move the new Kingdom and Alien Conquest sets off the end cap to the main aisle.
Hope this helps someone.

Thnaks for the heads up....will stop by Target tomorrow morning. Unlike other major retailers.....Target stores are more regional when it comes to sales.

    God -
Why did you put me near the WORST Target on the face of the planet?

    Sincerely (bummed),

    I visited two Targets tonight.

    At the first:
Most of the mentioned items were 15-30% off, except PoP which was 50% (and has been for over 1.5 months). All CMFs were gone.

    At the second:
Most of the mentioned items were 15% or not clearance at all, not a trace of any PoP stock (meaning they haven't had them for some time, not that they were just discounted and swooped up). All CMFs were gone.

Someone mentioned above that the Target is regional regarding sales, but I saw little to no consistency among 4 stores within a total hour drive. The Potter sets were only marked down 30% at one of the stores, and the 50% off Dobby set was a different store where NONE of the other Potter sets were marked down at all. The store with the Dobby set had the Atlantis sets marked down 20%, but another had them at 50% off.

    No rhyme, less reason.

^^ What part of the country are you in, DavidBrickley? I'd love to get those Toy Story sets for 50% off, but my stores either don't have any or are at full price.
  • DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 375
I'm in Virginia. I'll be out and about later today, I'll see how plentiful they are.
  • achillespdxachillespdx Member Posts: 106
Found the two toy story sets for 30% off... I think I'm gonna get one of each and keep them sealed with the hopes of a return/rebuy if they drop to 50% before they're gone - don't want to potentially miss out on a decent deal with the slim chance of it getting better.

My store also had the 8088 RC-170 Starfighter, 3182 Airport, and 3181 Passenger Plane for a pathetic 15% off. They had a TON of the passenger plane though, so hopefully it'll drop some more before they're gone.
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
^ Unless you know specifically that your local store will allow a return/rebuy (or even better: a price adjustment) of a clearance item, the prevailing policy is that the returned merchandise must go back on to the shelves where everyone has an equal opportunity at it.

There's nothing, of course, keeping you from just staying there until they re-stock it, but I've also seen Target employees make it their own personal mission to keep the returned set out of the returner's hands by waiting to process it as a "go back".

@DavidBrickley: Sales can be regional. Clearances vary by store. There's a lot of useful information contained in this discussion: http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/171/target-methodology

I am fortunate to live by so many Target stores. I also use the Taregt Red Card on purchases which takes off another 5%. Target is by far the most aggressive discounter here on and therefore the best place to get LEGO on the cheap. I also take advantage of their offers which give you a gift card for buying certain groceries. Watch their circulars each week and travel the end caps and you'll never know what you might find. There are 3 stores less than 15 minutes apart and they all have different clearance practices and they don't price match clearance prices nor do they let you come back for a price adjustment if the clearance price is lowered after you buy the item.

Jwsmart-did you get to Target hop? What did you find?

    ^Same experience as bmwlego above!

I went to three Target stores around Atlanta and only 1 of them had two Toy Story sets for 50% off. I picked up one of each.
It was weird because even though the stores are so close, each store had different sets on clearance and at different prices/discounts. Strange.

@Davidbrickley - whereabouts in VA are you?
  • DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 375
I'm just southwest of Richmond. I checked a couple more farther south (Colonial Heights and Chester) and nothing was duscounted more than 10%.

@bmwlego - plans changed a bit today, as I carpooled to work. I'll have to go out tomorrow AM.

$30 Lightning McQueen set already marked down 30% clearance at local Target along with Angler Fish, Scarab set, $6 creator sets, Freeing Dobby, Quidditch match. Gotta love Target!

I doubt you will see Potter sets on sale yet, they are relatively new..
I found that the only sets I saw on Clearance were the smaller sets, not the bigger ones...

^^ I'm going to keep my eye out moreso for the PoP Desert Attack as that has cooler figs and a brown shrub. :o)
  • DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 375
Regarding the Potter sets, I have seen all of last year's sets except Hogwart's Castle on clearance from 5-50% off, depensing on the store (the only 50% off set I have seen is Dobby).

As for PoP, I did happen to find 2 of the Desert Attack sets for 50% off and picked them up, but I like the Ostrich Race sets better because the faces are better for mixing in with other lines. But then, a bunch of ostriches is less useful than a handful of the horses.
  • jwsmartjwsmart Member Posts: 298
I wound up snagging a couple PoP sets for 50% off, but that was it... There really wasn't anything else left.

For anyone interested: The 5974 Galactic Enforcer is available at Target.com for only $50.48.
  • joshm21joshm21 Member Posts: 2
About 2 months ago, our Target had 14 Galactic Enforcers for 50% off. I waited until they were going to be 75% as they had so many. Someone on a forum said they went 75% off and I went that day and there were none on the shelf. I found only one in a random basket being used for markdowns.

Nothing of note on sale at NoVA Targets...
  • prevereprevere Member Posts: 2,923
Here in Northeast Ohio this Target sale is all over the place.

    Some have:
Many of the ones previously mentioned, but also...
Tie Defender at 50% off for $25. Always thought that set was way-overpriced at $50.

All Toy Story sets 50% off, Racer and Creater sets at 10% and about 10-20% City Airport, Fireboat.

But like some of you mentioned, some Targets had zippo off.

If anyone in the USA finds any Freeing Dobby (main priority) or Army Men for 50% off that are surplus to requirements, please shoot me a message. I wish we got deals like that in the UK, if my calculations are correct you're getting them for < 4 GBP each!
    Thanks

Targets in St. Louis are all over the map. Some had PQ sets on 30-50% off and some were full price. Some had the Ult. Build Lightning McQueen at 30% and others full price. Some had the Tie Defender for sale and others did not. Same with Freeing Dobby. The only ones that were fairly consistent were the Fire Boat and the Bionicle/Hero Factory watches. Sale PoPs were already all gone by mid-June as were CM 4.

While hitting up some K-Marts, I found what is likely a fluke at a Target... only one Potter set on clearance, the new Hogwarts set, 30% off. None of the previous series were clearance priced, not even Dobby (the half off ones at the other store have disappeared). As I said, gotta be a fluke.

The HP sets are starting to show up on clearance at Target. Around my town are Freeing Dobby, Quidditch Match and now Hagrid's Hut, all popping up at 30% off. You would think this would be the week for the big Harry Potter sale rather than the big clearance. They must expect interest to wane quickly post final movie.

I bought 20 7949 Prison Carriage Rescues from Target at 5.49 which is 45% off yesterday. Nice army builder. Didn't see much else though.

Latest clearance finds to the best of my recollection:

Harry Potter 30% off (Quidditch 50% and Hogwart's regular price)
    2010 Castle Kingdom 30% off
    2010 Atlantis 30-50% off
Star Wars Tie Defender 30% off, ARC-170 15% off
    Toy Story 30-50% off
Pharaoh's Quest 30-50% off (surprisingly soon)
Prince of Persia 50% off (except Battle of Alamut 30% off)
  • bmwlegobmwlego Member Posts: 820
My local Target had PoP Battle of Alamut for 30% off still as it has been for about a month or more already.i am waiting for it to go down to at least 50% off before buying another copy. Tis particular Target in Suffolk County had dozens of the $11 PoP set at 50% off and they are now gone. I thought they had so many that they would survive another round of markdowns but oh well, someone swooped them up beforehand.

Finding the new Creator Robot being marked down now as well as the Airplane, Smart Car, one store marked the PoTC London set down 30% already-possibly because all of the boxes were crushed?, and the Potter Quidditch set, Scarab Pharoahs set as well. All Targets in the area are marking their LEGO down but at different discounts and for different sets.
  • teal93mr2teal93mr2 Member Posts: 1,017
I have also been checking my local target stores and finding that for some reason, they refuse to further mark down the Battle of Alamut to 50%. Today I found some TIE Defenders ($25), Quidditch Match ($10), Atlantis Undersea Explorers ($21) all 50% off.
  • DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 375
One of my local stores had the 2x Alamut sets at 30% off for over a month. I broke down and got one, thinking better to have 1 at 30% off than none at 50% off. about a week after that, the other one disappeared. I don't know if it EVER went 50% off, but if it had, I wasn't in the right place at the right time for that.

Does anyone know if there is an established pattern to Target markdowns? Does it depend on volume? or how big the Lego aisle is/how much room they need to make? Don't get me wrong, the thrill of the hunt is...thrilling. But it would be just as much so if I had any idea what to expect when walking into the store.
  • teal93mr2teal93mr2 Member Posts: 1,017
I know that Target marks down their toys every Wednesday. Last week they had 3 of the Battle of Alamuts, decided I was going to get it today no matter the price, and of course they were all gone. Consolation Prize: found a Woody's Roundup for 12 bucks, first time I ever saw a decent larger set 75% off.
  • bmwlegobmwlego Member Posts: 820
Wow! 75% off! I haven't sene a 75% off set yet this clearance event. The January one either. I was afraid that Trget was stopping the 75% off clearance on LEGO. Sets that have been on clearance for a while around here end up being removed from the scanners. When I bring the set to the scanners the sets come up "item not found".

Better get the CMF 4 while you still can at Target. Online when searching the ASIN number they show up as not in the system anymore... http://www.target.com/gp/store-info/popup-start.html?asin=B004ZAT3MW&ref=sc_qi_act_FIAT

Finally found a target that had the freeing dobby set for half off. ~$6 each after sales tax, not a bad find. I have been trying to find another place with the hogwarts express on clearance, but they are regular price at every store.
  • DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 375
I found in Central VA (sorry, Yellowcastle) a bunch of stuff at 50% off: PotC Whitecap Bay, Isla de Muerta, Cannibal Escape, and London Escape; Harry Potter: Hogwart's Express, The Burrow; and Cars 2: Ultimate Build McQueen and Francesco. Also found one store with a Pharaoh Pyramid for 30% off, and got one of those since I had been postponing purchasing one at full price. All in all, a very productive and costly morning.

Oh, and for the second time (second store), I've seent the new Hogwarts set for 30% off, so maybe Harry Potter is on the way out (at least from Target)?

I have never found one CMF at a target by me.. dunno if this is because people are puncing on them or the store never had them to begin with.

The stores in St. Louis have no PotC on clearance. Some have the 2010 HP (sans Express and Castle), as well as 2010 Kingdoms, 2010 Atlantis, and 2010 Creator sets appear to be on clearance, along with some city sets and some Pharaoh's Quest (not the 10 or 20 dollar sets, but the bigger sets were 30% off). Some were NEW clearance this week and some just dropped to the next clearance level this past Wednesday. At one store they had Prison Carriage for 5.33 - three soldiers and a horse for five bucks! They only had three so I took them all.
  • CancanCancan Member Posts: 31
FINALLY some HP clearance at my Target here in CT. 30% off Hagrid's Hut and Freeing Dobby. (Along with some random Atlantis and Pharoah's Quest.) Hogwarts, Hogwarts Express, Forbidden Forest were all still full price. We are way behind the rest of you!

Have to say, took a look at the Alien Invasion stuff and I love it! UFO was on our project list but we may just take the easy way out and pick up the set instead.
  • DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 375
Seems like the stores with HP and PotC on clearance have all been cleaned out in Central VA, but I saw some new sets marked down yesterday. Some Atlantis sets are slow to mark-down, the Exploration HQ being one that hasn't budged from 15% off in over a month, but a couple of stores have the City Corner marked to 30% off as of yesterday, and the Cole DX spinner pack at 50% off.

I guess at some point the deals will dry up, but at the moment, they keep me walking into targets several times a week.
  • gtg905sgtg905s Member Posts: 29
There is plenty of PotC near me, but they are 25% off. If they were 50% I would buy two of each!
Hopefully I will be able to buy the sets when they do mark them down more.

I have to say, Target sales between the different stores makes no sense, lol
Almost every store I have been to has have different sets on sale and at different discounts and they are all with in miles of each other, lol
