I took one last peek at the Target near me. The clearance section was almost totally gone. Not much of any toys left. Saw two Hero Factory box sets at 50% off. I forget which one...it had a motorcycle on the box. As I was wandering around before I left, I saw one #9498 in a clearance endcap in the sporting goods aisle. $10 off. Yay for wandering aimlessly!!

Saw Saesee Tiins for $21 end cap at Target today (30% off). So some stuff still trickling out.

Found the last orge forge at my target for 50% and was not in the system. Clearance at my Target is done :-(
  • red237red237 Member Posts: 334
My target is slowly but surely putting a couple sets out every other week it seems. It never sits longer than 30% here.....today there were a few of the smaller Duplo Disney sets of pirates (Jake) and much to our delight we scored 2 new LOTR sets for 30% too sets #79007 and #79008 meanwhile, other sets sit at full price forever!
  • not12fallnot12fall Member Posts: 65
My target also put LOTR #79007 and #79008 for 30% off along with the Creator house #31012.

Oh, I wish. My Target had a 30% off of a large sponge bob set, no thanks.. I almost complained because the sign said 50% off of more but since I didn't want it it didn't matter.

Was in one of my local Targets this AM looking for a birthday card, but I swung by the toy aisles and noticed a temporary price cut (8/25-9/1) on #9474. Was marked down to $85.

I already own it, but may stop by again to pick up another set to make a bigger, better Helm's Deep.

This price is not available online as it shows $113.99.

Interesting, very hard to find however . . . Which Target did you see this price at?

Can anyone confirm if they've seen this price anywhere else?
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
I haven't seen a Helm's Deep (or any wave 1 LOTR) at an area target in quite some time.
  • BuriedinBricksBuriedinBricks Member Posts: 1,367
I saw a copy last night at target, but no markdown. might have to swing by today.

Tip- you can check your store availability online.

Goblin King marked down the same way to $65. Found another new set on sale but since it is highly unusual, and most likely not readily found, it may not be appropriate for this thread.

Saw this. Unfortunately my wife was not as excited when I told her I could make my first one bigger.

Picked up Helms Deep for $85 today.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
@ckenda1 Thanks for the heads up on this one! Been looking for another opportunity on Helm's.

my local Target had a Helm's Deep shelf tag with the $85 price, but I can say that this store hasn't had any of that set of the shelf for weeks, so unless they had more in back, or got some shipped in, then the tag never had stock associated with it.

similarly, there were 3 of the Goblin King battles a the $65 price, but I decided to pass on them.

I called ahead before going to Target. The guy questioned why I wanted to have Helm's Deep put on hold for me when there were "so many" on the shelf. Good thing I did because that "so many" was sold out once I got there. But I got mine ($85).

Its strange that target would pull all of the Helms Deep sets before the summer clearance only to put them back out afterwards at a discount.
  • ckenda1ckenda1 Member Posts: 121
    At 35% off to boot!
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
Helms Deep is a rare sighting in SoCal.

Thanks @ckenda1 I've been waiting for this set to go on sale for a long time now
  • juggles7juggles7 Member Posts: 451
The sale does not appear in their Sunday ad/insert so I guess it's impossible to do any price-matching. Nonetheless, Target's store display says it's a "price cut". A price-cut! I picked up one and left one behind tonight. I noticed neither had a clearance sticker. Dare I say it... is it possible they could get more in stock and sell those for 85 as well? Hope so!
  • starfire2starfire2 Member Posts: 1,335
At my Target, they also had the MF Ghost Train for $52.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
Interestingly my Target which had no Helm's Deeps listed in stock, actually had 3 on the shelf. But nothing on sale. Bizarro Target .... They wouldn't match the other Target prices as I was looking to pick up a Black Gate.

Wonder if Helms Deep is going to be one of the BF sale sets....
  • FollowsCloselyFollowsClosely Member Posts: 1,381
One of my local targets had:
    #9474 Helm's Deep @ $85
    #9467 The Ghost Train @ $52
    #79010 The Goblin King Battle @ $65

    Each (%35+(5%redcard))

^ Thank you for the heads up @ckenda1.

Yes, THANK YOU for posting this. I was able to get the last one in my area today (Central VA), only one store had any left. The box is a bit gouged from the spider security band, but it's going to get openned and built anyway.
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,987
Huh. How about that. I grabbed Helm's deep. I am almost shocked that I found it and found it on sale.
I happened to see The Ghost Train and Goblin King yesterday at my local Target, and came back home and then saw this thread. I had already picked up Goblin King for $70 at Walmart, since that is one of my son's top sets. I already have Ghost Train.

I passed on Helm's Deep at the Walmart Christmas clearance a while back, and I've always been a bit bothered by that decision. It seems like a nice castle and one my kid would like to do castle against castle play. (My daughter who has read LOTR, really would not have interest in this particular set. )

    Anyway, thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info, picked up the last Helms deep by me (at least at one of the Targets) but I think it has to be said that the Pirate ship is not on sale at all locations. Although it seems like the gobiln king and Helms deep sets are on temp price cuts.

I too was looking for Black Gate discounts, but rang up full price. I did pick up a Goblin King as I didn't have that yet for $65.

Thanks for the tip. I was able to grab a Goblin King (#79010) and, to my surprise, they had #79008 on clearance for $70.00. I thought my store was done weeks ago.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
Passed on the LotR Pirate Ship and Black Gate. The ship looks cool, but I'm avoiding impulse clearance purchases.
  • RennyRenny Member Posts: 1,145
Thank you, I was able to find the pirate ship :)
  • iancam33iancam33 Member Posts: 407
Is the pirate ship just going to be a short run???
  • RennyRenny Member Posts: 1,145
It should be available for at least a year I'm thinking, but at 30% off its a great time to pick one up early.
  • ckenda1ckenda1 Member Posts: 121
I broke down and went ahead and snagged the last one in all of central Maryland it seems while I was at a Target this AM buying the Walking Dead S3 Blu-Ray Steelbook. We already own it and built it, but maybe I'll use it for making a bigger/better Helm's Deep.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I was at Target this morning on a un-LEGO related shopping trip...the new Barbie movie came out...and I saw 4 Helm's Deep sets sitting with the $85 price tag. You know my LEGO budget is busted when I have to pass those up. The store is in Metairie LA by the way.

^^ Or return the WM loot and pick these up instead :).
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
The sale tag on the Helms Deep sets said the$85 sale was good till 9-21-13. Maybe I might get lucky and they will still be there on payday.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,836
I managed to find a Helms Deep.. wish I could have found the Pirate ship on sale though.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
Hoping for a restock on Helm's. Seems odd they would have a company wide sale on an item that 90% of their stores don't have anymore. Would think clearance stickers for what was left would have worked.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,836
I still am holding out hop that Helms Deep or Pirate ship are one of the sets going up for the BF discount
  • EKSamEKSam Member Posts: 349
My local target did not have the Helms Deep in stock although they had the sale sticker. The associate told me, "we won't get any more because this is discontinued".
I forgot to check the Pirate ship.
  • PoochyPoochy Member Posts: 479
^ It's strange that they did not include this set during the clearance round last month. Perhaps they're getting some kind of notice recently that Lego won't ship them any more. Impending sign of EOL?
  • norm103norm103 Member Posts: 302
I would say this is more to move stock then clearance as its a temp price cut then a red tag markdown.

^^ The LOTR,HObbit sets are pretty big and do take a lot of shelf space. The Goblin battle, Helms Deep, Ghost ship, even the Unexpected gathering or Battle at the Black gate, all of them are good sized. Perhaps its the shelf real estate that is pushing them to sell those out. Target does carry most of these online at regular prices. Or like you said maybe Helms Deep is EOL bound.
  • BeardedCastleGuyBeardedCastleGuy Member Posts: 127
@juggles7 it's listed as 'Temporary Price Cut' which seems to be Targets way of saying 'in-store special' so unless they also stuck it in the ad (happens occasionally but rare) you are correct, no price matching.

@norm103, it feels like shove them out the door pricing to me, not just empty the shelves, a couple of weeks ago they had a bunch and city sets on sale but really really weak discounts, some of under 5%. Putting Helms Deep @ $85 is the opposite of those stingy 'sale' pricings.

I had picked one up the other day but hadn't seen the posts here yet, still I couldn't resist since I had not gotten one previously. It was the last copy at the store I was at and the only other sign was for the MH GHost Train (empty shelf).
  • starwarfan77starwarfan77 Member Posts: 341
they put Helms Deep @ $85 as well. but there is no set i.e. they never had that set just the shelf space now all of a sudden.

and no sale on LOTR-2 ship or the black gate.. :(
