In addition to Lego, I am also a cigarette card collector.

Nothing to do with 300 or the camel x 3 site.

Brickedin is the state I get in when working on a large moc and I end up surrounded by bricks. I'm not the most organised builder. It's when you have to do a tippy toe dance thing to get out of the room.

I chose mine because it's my name and where I live. I just wanted a 'plain' username that refers to me without any connotations, and I added the place where I live because it's a great place. Of course I live in a town whose name now has other connotations, particularly with Americans (and others not familiar with the town), so I added the county as well so other people don't think I'm referring to the verb.

Of course it's kind of ironic that the love of Lego is pretty much about Dorking out, so I'll go with the verb as well.

I added UK because I think it's very useful to know where people are in the world on this forum, gets mighty confusing otherwise, especially when talking about trades or shopping deals.

Gonna have to change it in about 6 weeks though, so guess I'll be Si_NZ then :)

Actually, it's a screen name I've used on several other sites because no one else ever has it, and I don't want to have a number or something else after it. Then I started using the Mr. T avatar, and it was all downhill from there.

Lovely little thread :) Nice to get to know a bit more about you all.

For a long time I was Savage_Steel on here (and still am on the main site I think) - which is my roller derby name.

Then someone quietly changed me to MinifigsMe when http://minifigs.me took off, which is fine by me, as it does make things clearer, but I'm still not sure who changed it!?

My first name is Robert and obviously Bob is short for that. Along time ago me and a friend were playing a playstation game where you could design and make your own fighter. We were both pretty drunk. You had to design every aspect of him/her. It was fun at first but there was so much you had to do it got a bit boring. At the end you had to name him. I chose BOBJACK (all in capitals as he was a loud bombastic character). Then you had to choose a surname. By this time I was a bit fed up, hence JACKBOB. I've stuck with it since.

Back when I started posting online around 1999, I used my real name-- David Eaton. There was no real need for a handle, because everyone used something NNTP-based (RTL or LUGNET), which used both a "real name" and email address. However, as I read, the names and emails were mostly a blur at first (before I got to know people).

But a few people had quick-and-simple signatures that they used, like "++lar" or "jsproat" that I started to recognize. So I figured I'd make something similar. Nothing involved like a signature file, but something short and quick that I could easily type, but might be recognizable. So I started writing "DaveE" at the end of my posts.

As time went on, other sites needed usernames, and I often tried to get "dave" or "davee", but those were often taken. So I appended my LUGNET member number "123" to the end, making "davee123", which was distinctive enough to seemingly never be taken on other LEGO websites.

DaveE <-- and I still do that, for better or worse

The forum I spend most of my time on is a videogaming site called Eurogamer, and as I was one of the first to sign up, there weren't really any restrictions on names.

My favourite manga is Megatokyo, and my favourite character in the story is Boo, a small but resourceful hamster. That's him on my avatar pic. (So a big thanks to Fred Gallagher for creating him.)

When I signed up for EG, I was just Boo, but as the years have gone on, the chances of getting that username elsewhere are near as dammit, nil.

So when I suddenly got back into the way of the brick, and I needed a new username for Brickset, Youtube etc. I tried a few alternatives, most of which were taken, but finally settled on BooTheMightyHamster.

It's a bit of a mouthful, and I quite happily answer to just plain old Boo!

    Great topic!

Mine's a nickname my mate gave my when we were jamming years ago (he plays drums and I play bass). It stuck and I use it for most things now! Plus I couldn't come up with a decent LEGO-based name for here...

^Brickbison? Bassbricker? Raised_Bassplate? If I could do it again myself I would choose something other than "brick" for my portmanteau prefix.
  • carlqcarlq Member Posts: 792
@BooTheMightyHamster, I thought your name came from the most interesting demi-NPC in the Baldur's Gate RPGs! :-)

On-topic, I've used Carlq (or carl_q) on almost every forum I've ever joined (Bugwort being my other choice - my family nickname). My first name's Carl, my initial's Q. Not clever, but since surnames beginning with q are pretty uncommon, it's distinctive!

Gotham due to being a Batman fan, construction (building with Lego) and Co just rounded off the rest of the mouthful.
I just need to change my avatar now as I've made Bruce Wayne into a bit of a fat head.

Mine originated in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. When I generated a character, the game gave him the name Tyo somethingorother (not literally). Since my fave SW character is Han, I changed it to Tyo Solo. As most usernames don't allow spaces, I changed it to TyoSolo for forum use. Now that's what I am everywhere.

The avatar is an instagram picture of my favourite CMF with a different head. No other reason.
  • yys4uyys4u Member Posts: 1,093
Mine originated as many of yours have, I needed a user name quick for something else. For me it was Xbox Live. I wanted to sign up quick and just wanted to pick some user name so I could start gaming only, although at the time I thought you could change it later. So I picked something and found out you can't change your name unless you pay Xbox Live, so subsequent sites and forums, I always signed up with the same name so I wouldn't forget it. And in case your wondering

yys4u = Too wise for you

If I could do it again, I would have had my Xbox Live account and other forums use some name that refers to my real name, and any LEGO sites to refer to my youtube channel I started a couple years ago, MobyBrickFlicks.

Although if I could redo my youtube channel it would be MobyBrickFliX but when making it I had a total brain fart and accidentally went with Flicks. I made the channel to mess around with brick films so Flix would have been more logical. I don't use my youtube channel much, but regardless it would have had made more sense to have my account names consistent. However I was a member on Brickset LONG before I made a youtube channel so that wouldn't have really worked.

Part of the phrase "Klaatu barada nikto" from the classic scifi movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still." Like others, it got propagated from a string of online sites with random numbers added for uniqueness. My spelling "Klatu" is wrong per usual. Now, the script page is on Wikipedia, then I only had my ears to understand Michael Rennie and Patricia Neal.

Did you also know that George Lucas names Klaatu and Barada as two characters of the Nikto/Klatooinian species in star wars? And also that Bruce Campbell in army of darkness uses the line 'klaatu barada nikto' when forgeting the correct incantations to release the book of the dead.

    More fun facts here:
