Horizon express query

Hi, I've just bought the HE for my son, he already has the yellow cargo train with power functions. What exactly do I need to buy in order to get the HE moving so he can play with them both at the same time? I've seen the HE power functions set (after I'd already bought it), but not sure if I need everything in it anyway?? Hoping this isn't going to cost me an arm and leg... Thanks! :-)

Do you want to reuse parts from the Yellow Cargo when possible or do you want duplicates so both trains are ready to go at all times? If you want to reuse parts you already have from the Yellow Cargo, I think all you need extra are 8870 Lights. (Edit: Nevermind, read that you want both to run at the same time, see below :) )

If you want both trains to have their own motors and parts, you will need 8870 Lights, 88002 Train Motor, 8884 IR Receiver and one of the battery boxes (either AAA or rechargeable, AAA is cheaper) for the HE. You can use the remote you already have from the Yellow Cargo to control both trains.

The instructions to install those parts and the part numbers you need are located at the very end of the instructions btw...and it will list part numbers for the rechargeable battery box and charging cord but both can be replaced by the aaa battery box like was mentioned already.

I know it might cause more problems than solve but I and quite a few of the people I knock around with have bought the passenger train set (when it's around the £66 mark) in order to grab all the parts for motorising further trains! But then if u havn't already got the passenger train u might end up buying 2.

The AAA box is definitely the less expensive solution. But, as expensive as the rechargeable packs are (and they are), they really are worth it from a convenience standpoint. They have a long run-time and don't require you to dismantle the engine when you change the batteries (which you will do a lot). Plus, you only need one power cord to support charging multiple rechargeables (not simultaneously though, of course).
