I was building my #10240 UCS X-Wing and it seems that a piece has has not been manufactured properly. This is part 4194010 Droid Body. It should have a cross hole in it to insert a technic pin...

Unless it's a different part than that used for droids like R2, etc., the top only has a slot as shown in your photo. The opposite end does have a cross slot, though.
