Building the Iron Man Secret Lab/Hall of Armor Lego Club exclusive build.

jasorjasor Member Posts: 839

Has anyone taken a look at the Iron Man secret lab build yet? I actually just got the Lego Club magazine in yesterday. It LOOKS interesting, but haven't had the chance to pull up the instructions for the build yet....

it's probably not live until the event at the store. meh.
  • jasorjasor Member Posts: 839
    Per the Store Calendar

"Starting May 13, visit the LEGO® Store to help rebuild
Tony Stark’s Malibu Mansion and lab! Plus, receive a
FREE LEGO® Iron Man™ poster, only while supplies last!
    See back for details."

it shows Malibu Mansion, but the bold header say "Secret Lab."
from the look of it, I'd almost rather BL/build the secret lab over the Mansion.

Does anyone have a picture of what the lab looks like?
  • jasorjasor Member Posts: 839
If I had the mag with me, I would post...there is like little to nothing on the intertubes about it.
  • yys4uyys4u Member Posts: 1,093
Is this one of those things where you buy certain sets and this is a downloadable pdf with instructions to build the lab based on the 2 sets you bought? Or is this just some bonus instructions LEGO put out and you have to get the parts yourself through bricklink or where ever?
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,392
I am pretty sure the club magazine said you build it with your own parts.
  • GeddesGeddes Member Posts: 574
this is great.... have they done this sort of thing before? Where do you get the stickers?
  • yys4uyys4u Member Posts: 1,093
^That's right, I hadn't noticed the stickers the first time, what about that base plate, that's not something you'd have laying around, especially with LEGOs campaign to get rid of them in all sets. :)
  • jasorjasor Member Posts: 839
hmmmm, the baseplate and stickers have me baffled, really. I actually have that baseplate, but so weird that they would put stickers in a design like that....maybe it's from the malibu lab?

@jasor do you remember what set you bought that had that baseplate?

And I think your right about the stickers, I just checked on lego.com and in some of the pictures of the Malibu Lab set you can see the stickers from page 9 on the pdf

Maybe you get the stickers if you go to the in-store event?
  • The_MackThe_Mack Member Posts: 239
I wonder if there is a set that hasn't been released yet, that will allow you to build this set. It's really confusing how a child would create it, without mashing together a few sets. But none of the Iron Man sets have a baseplate like that. Currently there is no way to build it with #76007 Malibu and #76006 Extremis Sea, plus all those grey plates.
  • JBricks27JBricks27 Member Posts: 678
The Malibu mansion and seaport battle have a far amount of the required pieces but you would need multiples of those sets plus more pieces. Does anyone know if there are other current sets besides those 2 that would cover the pieces? (I checked the mandarin ultimate showdown but only the dary grey 4x4 round plate is in that one)

I'm going to guess that TLG is waiting to announce additional sets at San Diego Comic-Con. The stickers have me baffled also. There are only two new Iron Man sets and they are both smaller sets, with a new Iron Man movie in the theaters. Maybe a larger exlusive set like Arkham Asylum?
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,392
Are you sure the stickers are not here?

This looks like a neat little build, the stickers are from the Malibu Mansion as @Russel844 mentions above, and the dark bluish grey baseplate comes from these sets: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=3857&colorID=85&in=A.

Good luck to anyone trying to build it!

What a complicated build for kids, if you're trying to keep within the color range of the instructions.

The baseplate has been in a few city sets http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=3857&colorID=85&in=A and at a guess most.people are likely to have one in their collection (even if a different colour, which does make me wonder, how many rainbow secret labs are we likely to see in the next issue of the Lego magazine...).

    Working on it..

if you get a round figure, let us know! I'm already working on like 3 BL projects in my wanted lists, so this one will be on the back burner for a bit. i have to actually get the mansion as well.
  • jasorjasor Member Posts: 839
Just looked at this breakdown, and there are 440 pcs to this build. Out of those, 60 pcs are relative to 76007-1: Iron Man: Malibu Mansion Attack. Oh, and most of those relative pcs are less than what you need for the lab, meaning you would have to obtain more of THOSE pcs as well.

    HAHAHA!

Pretty interesting stuff. Now I just HAVE to build it.

It's also important to consider the price of acquiring each Ironman minifig (if you don't already have them).

I'm pretty certain if you were interested in building this set you'd have the Ironman minifigures already.

If you took the parts for the lab out of the mansion, rebuilt the mansion and sat it on top of the lab...

Only the vault of armour to build after that! Oh and mass customisation of mini figs to make all the suits featured in the movie. Mmm, definitely tempting.
  • jasorjasor Member Posts: 839
^^there are barely any parts to be had from the mansion for this build....
  • BeavBeav Member Posts: 303
Looks brilliant, wish it was a real set, or an add on set which you could attach underneath the mansion like the Jabbas palace/rancor pit sets.

Wow, thanks for posting this! Didn't even know about it. Looks really cool, I might try to make my own variation, as I doubt I have all those parts.

Despite not having a single super heroes set I'd love to build this, shame it isn't an actual set (although the US will probably get it for free)
  • kyrotekkyrotek Member Posts: 212
So has anyone put together a BL or PaB listing for this build?

I am a total beginner at this, so trying to build an XL list for this one to see how much it would cost. BL is a little daunting when trying to build a wanted list of parts and I'm not sure I am getting it right!
  • jasorjasor Member Posts: 839
@kyrotek -- the easiest way I've known (just from trial by error), is to look at the xml format provided in the BL help page, and basically format it row by row per each item in excel. That's *IF you have a bunch of wanted lists already...If not, you could always look at the last page of the PDF file, and type the parts in single item, then add to wanted list too. BL is so easy, it's not.

@hantot " (although the US will probably get it for free) " ----- ...Really? I live in US, and I'm pretty positive I wont get this for free. Pretty sure...

Thanks @Jasor, I'd better get typing then!

Just as an aside to anyone gathering a list of BL parts for this... 306944 is not in BL... as far as i can tell it's 4194535 with 3069b Design ID....

I've just put in a couple of BL orders for parts for me, my brother and my nephew to make this. Can't wait to build it!

... suppose I should buy the actual Iron Man sets so I have the suits to display :-)

If you really want it too, you can make it so! It's LEGO, customize it. I think many of us, including myself, constantly get caught up in all the instruction booklets, the many steps, the careful procedures... to where we forget what we are building with. Plastic bricks that are met to be used for any type of creation we want.

    Anythings possible... just imagine! :o)

^^ Yes! I want to get the Mansion set, order an extra set sans figs, build this with the intention of making the "suit cave." :)

How many suits are in now? Circle, Triangle, Blue Eyes, Mark 42, War Machine, and Iron Patriot.

Haha, Im not the most confident when it comes to customizing sets, plus most of my bricks are jumbled up and at my mums house.

But, I will definitely be Bricklinking the parts for this and then trying to blend it into the mansion set. Im a huge Iron Man fan and this is just too brilliant not to!

I plan on using this as a guideline and making the lab with the mansion built on top!

I have ordered all the parts :) from lego cost me approx £50 inc shipping. Lots of the pieces appear to be from TMNT sets or other 2013 sets....

    Only problematic part was 306944
  • jasorjasor Member Posts: 839
@geddes ^^ look above for the part correction i stated earlier

@jasor phew thats the one I used.
