Mr. Gold hunt thread

Jonn420Jonn420 Member Posts: 267
I though this could use its own thread, keeping track of howmany are left (aprox.) and regionaly.

According to Ebay and this site there should be 4991 left be found, and they are in Germany and Usa.

Also a poster here mentioned his was found on an isle display instead of a box.

Untill Lego goes live with its Mr. Gold tracking site, this thread might be helpfull.

Good Hunting Collectors!

Just had my go at a fresh display box. Mr. Gold wasn't there. That's probably as far as I'll go to get him.
  • yys4uyys4u Member Posts: 1,093
I've been struggling to decide whether its worth it or not to go to Target and ask them to pull it from the back. I wouldn't mind if it's any regular series, but it seems unfair to do it this time...
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I feel the same way. I was at Target this morning and asked when they were getting their series 10 and I was told they were in the back still sealed. I was then asked if I wanted him to go get them for me. The though of another sealed case...I already orderd one from minifigsplus.....sounded good but It didnt feel right. If you can pull them before the official release date then more power to you....I just couldnt pull the trigger

The street date is May 5th. They can't sell it before that. You could try.

Guys as far as a morral standpoint, i feel that if you have the means(tips, tricks, insider info) to hunt down a collectable i say go for it, it just makes you a better hunter..... To use the same tricks to skalp and make a quick buck befor, collectors or poor starving children can get to them is just plain wrong.

    Collecting > Skalping

I get what he's saying though, basically it's ok if you stretch the rules to get something you desperately want for your collection, but if your doing it just so you can throw it up on ebay and make a lot of money, it's frowned upon by us collectors.
  • roxioroxio Member Posts: 1,384
^ yeah, but "poor starving children" is stretching it a bit

Right, I just wasn't sure if @roxio literally meant "what?" as in he didn't understand, or what as in "are you serious..."

and @roxio I agree "poor starving children" is a bit of a stretch haha

They are sold in Denmark now...

I forget not everyone gets my sense of humor, " poor starving children" was a humorous poke at a former thread and a comment about " taking toys away from children who need them", and such.
Yys4u summed up what u was trying to say exactly.

Since the feature has not appeared on the LEGO website, I think it may be useful to collectors to share where each Mr. Gold has been found.

Mine is from New Jersey - USA

No wonder I haven't found any S10 CMFs in the Portland area! Keep a close eye on eBay listing. I've seen several customs trying get money out of people.

Anyone find one in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area? Methinks it's time to start going to Targets. I have like 5 within a half hour of me lol
  • Jonn420Jonn420 Member Posts: 267
Stopped at 2 walmarts, a target, a BN , and a Kmart last night.Target was the only store that even had them in the back, i almost had them when the guy was like " oh, i cant sell them till may 1st.".
  • MacheteroMachetero Member Posts: 26
@Goldchains: I tried the Cincinnati Central Target a few days ago. One of the workers went to the back, grabbed the box, opened it as he was walking towards be, and then noticed the May 1st sticker and said "You...didn't see this. Sorry." and took it back to the stock room. YMMV.

What's up everyone, this is my first post to the site as I have been a lurker until now. I am an AFOL and the person who posted the Mr. Gold on eBay from Spring Hill KS. I have been on a few different sites where Mr. Gold is being discussed and I just wanted it on record that I really had to contemplate whether to list him on eBay or not. I have every minifig from series 1-10 and do have a small case of completest OCD. However I couldn’t pass up this opportunity to make some nice cash, to funnel back into my hobby. Gold C-3PO, Death Star and Palace Cinema top the list right now.

At first I listed it as “Buy it now” for $1149.00 but after a few hours I guilted myself into listing it auction style which seems more fair. I am as surprised as anyone on how high this figure is getting, especially seeing how the gold C-3PO only runs about $400 and is a cooler and more desirable minifig IMHO.

Anyway, I really love the Lego hobby, only resell to support my addiction and look forward to coming out of the shadows to post more of my opinions and great finds in these forums.

@SamuraiPete- Welcome to the forums! Congrats on the find, and thanks for the post!

You can expect prices on Mr. Gold to drastically drop within a few weeks. People paying the rather outrageous prices right now are those that are impatient :) Mr. Gold will only go for what the market is willing to pay, and you can bet that prices of $1,000 won't be paid for long. In fact, they've already started dropping. The first few of any exclusive figure are always gobbled up for outrageous prices before dropping down to a much more affordable price.

Sell it now (like you already are), and buy 5 Mr. Golds, if you want, in a few weeks with the money you made! You won't regret it :o)
  • SamuraiPeteSamuraiPete Member Posts: 40
Thanks @samiam391 and that was my thought process as well, I figured they may come down after May 1st or 5th when more of the retail outlets put their boxes out. Believe it or not I found this one at a Toys R Us that only had about 25 packs out on an end cap. Not to mention they were buy 1 get 1 40% off.
  • JBricks27JBricks27 Member Posts: 678

    When is that sale ending?

I think the sale goes through next Saturday (4/27)

Is there a product number that can be used at toys r us to look and see if they are "in stock". I'm thinking most stores have them but just might not be out on the floor yet
  • SamuraiPeteSamuraiPete Member Posts: 40
Not sure about a product number I just swung by on a whim and saw they had a few series 10 on the shelf.

^^ I believe they use the "'R' Web #" as the product code so going by their website, it should be: 814803.
  • congruencecongruence Member Posts: 26
Anyone who's found one want to post the bump code & Package ID #?
  • JBricks27JBricks27 Member Posts: 678
    What's the package ID?
  • congruencecongruence Member Posts: 26
The letter & # combo on the back bottom of the package. (I'm sure there is a proper name for them, can't think of it now)

On the 2 cases I felt at the Daytona Beach Toys R Us this afternoon it was 602E3. (No luck with Mr Gold)
  • willkfwongwillkfwong Member Posts: 44
I just picked up a case at the Hawthorne CA Toys R Us customer service desk during lunch. I shall check for Mr Gold tonight!
  • SamuraiPeteSamuraiPete Member Posts: 40
I picked up a couple minifigs from Toys R Us at the same time I bought Mr. Gold and they were all from lot 409B3 and Mr. Gold had this bump code. I am not sure if the bump codes differ per lot or not.
  • SamuraiPeteSamuraiPete Member Posts: 40
I have just confirmed via multiple forum threads that the bump codes don't mean much anymore so don't take my word for it before purchasing anything. I just wanted to illustrate what mine looked like. The feel method is still the best approach and is pretty easy on Mr. Gold due to his top hat.

That's the same luck I had at my local Target. The clerk brought the whole 120 pack end cap display out in its shipping carton just to show the May 1st label to me.

  • JBricks27JBricks27 Member Posts: 678
Just tried another Target store and TRU. The Target store had the 120 count display box but no Mr Gold and TRU didn't have any series 10 yet

Bah that sucks. It just depends on the worker I guess. I've noticed if they're younger, they won't care, but if you get an older one, they're sticklers. It just depends who is available. I live near that Target myself lol.

Actually, the guy there was pretty young. But from what I gathered from the original person I spoke with he was kind of "the guy" when it came to stocking the toy aisles. I was going to try my luck again tonight and see if someone else was willing to ignore the sticker but it was too close to closing time. It eats away at me knowing they are so very close.

I would like to have one early. Because on May 1st, the market will be flooded, and prices will drop dramatically. The early bird gets the worm, as the saying goes.
  • PhoneboothPhonebooth Member Posts: 1,430
So how much does a case cost? Does anyone want to sell me a full set?
